Music lies at the heart of life at St Cyprian’s Clarence Gate, a beautiful Anglican church in London, just moments from Regent’s Park and Baker Street.

Known for its acoustics, architecture, and musical tradition, the church regularly welcomes worshippers, musicians and audiences for its Sunday services and Chamber concert series.

The Director of Music at St Cyprian’s is Julian Collings, who has held the role since 2012. He oversees the church’s musical life in worship and concerts, working closely with the clergy and choir to maintain its strong choral tradition. Julian is also active as a conductor, organist, and pianist and is manages the Chamber Music Series and visiting concert programme.

St Cyprian’s hosts a wide-ranging programme of free classical concerts as part of its Chamber Series. Concerts take place monthly on Sunday evenings at 6 pm and are open to all.

The programme includes chamber music, solo recitals, orchestral concerts, choral music, and jazz, performed by outstanding musicians in a beautiful setting.

Concerts are free to attend and are followed by refreshments. Those who wish to do so are warmly invited to support the music through donations.

ST CYPRIAN’S SINGERS

St Cyprian’s Singers were founded in 2012 by Philip de Grouchy and Julian Collings and serve as the choir of St Cyprian’s. The choir is primarily made up of alumni choral scholars from British university chapel choirs and is recognised as one of the leading mixed-voice church choirs in London.

Their principal role is to provide music for the regular choral Mass on Sundays and Choral Evensong every second Sunday of each month at 6 pm, and for major services throughout the church year, including the annual service of Nine Lessons and Carols and St Cyprian’s Day. The choir’s repertoire is of the Anglican cathedral tradition, drawing on music from the early Church to the present day.

Alongside its liturgical role, St Cyprian’s Singers maintain an active programme of concerts. The choir is regularly invited to perform at festivals and concert series across the UK and internationally. Appearances have included the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music, the Brandenburg Choral Festival, and the City of London Festival, as well as tours to Seville and New York City.

INSTRUMENTS &

ACOUSTICS

St Cyprian’s is widely admired for its acoustics, which are particularly well-suited to choral and chamber music. The building offers warmth, clarity, and resonance, making it an excellent venue for performers and audiences.

The church is home to:

  • A Spurden Rutt organ of national significance

  • Two pianos, including a Kawai grand piano

  • A smaller organ and harpsichord

These instruments support both worship and concert life and contribute to the distinctive musical character of the church.
